How do I join the beta and install the app?

SpottID is currently in beta on iOS through Apple's TestFlight. To get started:

  • Install TestFlight from the App Store (it's free).
  • Open our beta invite link and tap to install SpottID.
  • Open SpottID and start spotting.

What is a SpottIR, and what is an owner?

A SpottIR is someone who discovers and photographs cars. An owner is someone who has registered their vehicle with a SpottID beacon.

SpottIRs find beacon-enabled cars nearby and submit photos to the owner. Owners review those photos and decide which ones to keep and share. You can be both.

How do I find SpottID cars?

There are two ways:

  • Look for the SpottID cling on a car's window.
  • Open the app and tap Scan to see beacon-enabled cars near you.

You need to be close to a car for its beacon to appear. Make sure Bluetooth is turned on.

I photographed a car. What happens to my photo?

When you submit a photo, it goes to the vehicle owner for review. Your photo is not public right away.

The owner can approve, reject, or report it. If they approve it, it can appear in their gallery and the community feed, with credit to you.

I'm an owner. How do I approve or reject photos?

When a SpottIR submits a photo of your car, you'll get a notification. Open the app to review pending photos, where you can accept, reject, or report each one.

Approved photos are added to your gallery. You stay in control of what gets kept and shared.

How do I get a beacon for my car?

During the beta we're rolling out beacons to select testers and markets. Join the beacon waitlist on our site and we'll let you know when one is available for your car.

The app can't find any cars. What should I check?

A few quick things to check:

  • Bluetooth is turned on for your device.
  • SpottID has permission to use Bluetooth (check your iPhone Settings under SpottID).
  • You're close enough to a beacon-enabled car.
  • You're running the latest beta build from TestFlight.

If it still isn't working, email us with your device model and app version and we'll dig in.

How do I delete my account or my data?

You can delete your account and associated data from within the app. Go to Settings and tap Delete Account, then confirm. This permanently removes your account and personal data and cannot be undone.
